Victoria Day Parade

The Society is not participating in the Victoria Day Parade on May 24, 2010.

At the December 6, 2009 meeting the following executive board members were acclaimed:

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - 2009

The Society's Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held as follows: 

Date:  Sunday, December 6, 2009

Time:  1pm to 4pm  (the meeting will start at 1:30pm)

Location:  Oaklands Community Centre, 2827 Belmont Avenue, Victoria BC

The Society provided refreshments including tea, coffee, juice and water and some baked goods.  Members in good standing (i.e., paid-up members) have the opportunity to run for election to the Executive Board and to vote in elections and on resolutions for the consideration of the membership.  Please ensure you have paid your membership fees so you can participate at the AGM.  Membership fees can also be paid before the start of the meeting.

 KURBAN BAYRAMI POTLUCK - CANCELLED

The Society will not be hosting a Kurban Bayrami potluck this November.  No volunteers came forward to assist with the organization of this event.   

REPUBLIC DAY DINNER - OCTOBER 29TH

THANKS to the Nar Bistro - all 32 attendees of the Republic Day Dinner enjoyed a delicious and memorable meal!

The Turkish Canadian Friendship Society of Vancouver is hosting a Republic Day Dinner on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Nar Bistro, 2540 Windsor in Oak Bay (http://narcafebistro.com/home).  Please feel free to come by at 6:00pm to get comfortable (get your seats and any drinks).  Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. 

The price of the dinner will be $30 per person, which includes tax and tip. 
 
The dinner will be a Turkish buffet, and includes appetizers, main dish and desserts, as well as tea or coffee.  You will be responsible for paying for any other beverages, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, you consume.

Ramazan Bayrami / September Potluck

The Turkish Canadian Friendship Society of Vancouver Island thanks everyone who came out to our first lunch potluck of the Fall, to celebrate Ramazan Bayrami and to welcome students. 

It took place on Sunday, September 27th, 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, at Oaklands Community Centre, 2827 Belmont Avenue, Victoria.  

 

 The society contributed potluck supplies - plates, cutlery, cups, cold drinks, tea and coffee.  Members contributed a variey of potluck items for lunch, and dessert.  


Annual Summer Picnic - July 25th Eagle Beach


The Turkish Canadian Friendship Society of Vancouver Island is pleased to invite you to our Annual Summer Potluck Lunch Picnic.

When: Saturday July 25th, starting at 12:00 noon (Rain or Shine)

Where: Eagle Beach Picnic Shelter, Elk Lake Park

(The shelter is near the Rowing Club. Elk Lake is reachable by bus #70 or #75 from Victoria. )

The Society will contribute barbeque coals and tools, as well as potluck supplies (plates, cutlery and cups). The Society will also supply a selection of cold drinks.

Please bring something to cook on the barbeque and a potluck item for lunch. Please keep in mind that there are no refrigeration facilities as you plan your potluck contribution. Where possible, please include serving spoons.

There is a green field next to the Shelter, so please feel free to bring a soccer ball or other games to play.

The Society's Annual General Meeting for 2009 was held on February 22, 2009.   The meeting on December 7, 2008 was postponed due to lack of attendance.  At the February 22nd  meeting the following executive board members were elected.

Annual General Meeting

Turkish Canadian Friendship Society of VI is having its Annual General Meeting on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the Cedar Hill Recreation Centre Senior Wing

The AGM will start at 12:00 pm and continue until 1:45 pm. After the AGM, Kurban Bayrami celebration potluck will take place at 2:00pm until 4:00pm in the same room.
 
Note that the revised constitution and bylaw will be introduced. It will require a special resolution at the General Meeting. Please review attached constitution and bylaw prior to the meeting.

23 Nisan Kutlamasi - 23 April Celebration

23 April celebration took place in Cedar Hill Rec Centre with a turnout about 40 people and lot's of kids. Thanks for everyone for joining us and bringing delicious food.

Ongoing Activities

Free Turkish Lessons - Wednesday evenings until June 30th (Intermediate level only)

UPDATE May 12, 2010:  Free Turkish lessons are now in progress on Wednesday evenings until June 30, 2010.  Current lessons are intended only for students with at least a beginner's knowledge of Turkish.   If you are interested in attending these intermediate level classes, please contact our teacher Ayse at 250-294-2060, as class size is limited.  We are hoping to have a class for students interested in some basic traveller's Turkish in the future.  Please email:
